Hi All, I have been a member for several years but just haven’t been active....I have several questions and hope some of you may be able to provide some insight......we may decide to do a spur of the moment trip and the beginning of October....... 1. Anyone noticing a shortage on supplies at grocery stores......food, paper products, gas? 2. Are all restaurants open or are they struggling with being short staffed? We have restaurants on our area.....Canton OH that close then reopen and back and forth due to being short staffed. 3. Noticing any increase in Covid positive testing and hospitalizations with the Delta Variant? 4. Are masks required for entry to restaurants, grocery stores etc.? Thank you in advance for any replies. Buckeye Gal |

1. no real shortages to worry about. 2. many close a day now and then for staff shortages or to test employees after one was exposed to covid. This is common. 3. big increase - we wonder why so many are going out in public and seldom see masks 4. See above - 50% wear them and most workers are wearing them in stores. |

Thanks Tim! Sounds similar to where we live. Most of the hospitalizations here are with Delta and unvaccinated people. |

I was in the Walmart in Kitty Hawk last night. They have a greeter giving out masks if you don’t have one on. Most of the people were wearing them but I did see some individuals without them. No confrontations. I was only picking up a pizza for dinner having just arrived from PA. Friends were down last week and mentioned that a number of restaurants had limited hours and would have several days closed. |

Beach Farmer - give it a rest. If you think all this is a lie - shame on you but I will not try to convince you otherwise. We all are weary of the discussion and the arguments. There were valid questions asked about the Outer Banks and what is happening there. Lets stick to that! |

One thing to remember is to have patience when you go out for dinner. Yes, it takes longer to get a drink and food, but I watched the staff’s and they are working their butts off. I saw a few people throwing tantrums because they didn’t get waited on right away. It’s unfortunate how impatient we Americans are. |

Fish Heads (a really fun place to visit) is completely outside (it's on a pier). The staff had to post a sign reminding patrons that the staff has no control over the weather and to please not take out weather-related frustrations on the staff. |

We ate outside and inside at The Avenue in Manteo, outside at Sugar Shack and Froggy Dog. Inside at Mulligans. Most servers wear masks, a lot of people from door to table, a lot of people not at all. Same in stores. Probably like at home. The biggest difference is not knowing when things might be closed, and definitely eat like a senior at 4 or you might have a two hour wait! We had a great time, and good service. Just need patience and politeness! |

Thank You to All that replied. Lots of good info. We have been OBX vacationers for over 40 years and never missed a year (many years a couple of times in a year) however it’s been a couple of years since we’ve been there......so we are needing some OBX time! Again, your kind helpful responses are much appreciated! |

In KDH last week and drove up to Duck/down to South Nags Head. Depending upon where we were, up to half were masked, although in some places, we were the only ones wearing them indoors. Most businesses seemed to require staff to be masked, but not all. One of our party was challenged by another customer while picking up takeout (“What are you afraid of?”), and I noticed a look or two, but most folks just went about their business. I second Fish Heads for an outdoor meal. |

There were valid questions asked about the Outer Banks and what is happening there. Lets stick to that! Yup, we can't all live in the woods/ICW/RVs, or plomp ourselves on the beach and fish, with minimal social interaction, independent OBX Marlboro men and women, camping out on the OBX with Jeffersonian ideals that we are entitled, What a boost to the economy that would be, if it worked! Sit on a pole and fish on the OBX to solve COVID and the economy? There's a solution! What would the number of those created jobs be if we isolate and withdraw to the ICW or fishing on the beach, or RVs? Last I checked, positivity rate in Dare County was something like 23%. I'd be cautious if you're vaccinated, Buckeye Gal; I would stay away if you're not vaccinated. Ocean Blue, are we already at the deaths from the 1918 Spanish flu pandemic? About 679,000 deaths in the US now from COVID? My God, how is this possible? |

1. Did not notice any shortages. We shopped at The Red and White and at Connors. No problems finding the few things we wanted. 2. This is one area where there is a big change. Most places were short staffed and it was noticeable. It was hit or miss on if some place would be open or closed. Sunday was just about impossible to find a restaurant open. Monday wasn't much better. Plan to be able to switch to take out or making dinner at home on any given day. I think not having the J1's really hurt. 3. Can't comment on this as I didn't look for that information. 4. We were in Hatteras Village 2 weeks ago. We were able to do everything we wanted too, safely. Mask usage down there was probably 30-70 (used-didn't) in most places unless the place stated mask required, then the majority were masked. Very few places required masks though. I hate crowds and this is the case well before 2020 hit, so I avoid any crowded places. It was much more crowded than I'm used to. It didn't hamper my enjoyment at all though. Go, have fun, shop and buy local as much as you can. |

Crunch is right. It would be safer to stay away. It's very risky even if you are vaccinated. Even with 65% of the population of Dare County vaccinated the positive cases of those that get tested is increasing.....and the number of breakthrough cases is approaching 20%. It may be best to wait until the FDA and the pharmacological companies sort out the details of the remuneration agreement for the third jab or booster. Until then safe stay at home, have the doorman bring your meals up to your condo and wait for the new improved super duper power booster vaccine to become available. Otherwise, come on down, the water is still warm for swimming in Hatteras and the mullet are thick in the breakers...... Full disclosure: I have no rental property investments nor do I benefit financially from the tourism/hospitality industry and I am not a Realtor (trademark). |

I'm not going to get into any Covid arguments, but I disagree with your last sentence. I was able to do anything I wanted and my vaccination status had nothing to do with it. I see no reason why others would not be able to do the same. We ate out twice, both times outdoors. We were on the beach a lot. We avoided crowded shops and did a lot of driving around. We wore mask where needed. Minus wearing masks, this is a pretty normal SOP for me. Pretty much the same as it is here in Buck County, PA. |

What is it you want me to look up? Nothing I stated is wrong. Being honest here, I'd be much more concerned about going to NYC than Hatteras Village. You can space out in Hatteras. You can't do that in NYC. Dare County is pretty big. Hatteras Island is a very small portion of it. Most of Dare County is on the mainland and even there I'd have no issues visiting. |
